9. How to sponsor a Blueprinting project team (www.BlueprintingSponsor.com)

Follow these tips to ensure the Blueprinting project you're sponsoring has incredible success!

Congratulations! You are sponsoring a project team that is using the New Product Blueprinting methodology. We know you want them to succeed because...

  1. Insurance for a successful new product: Your team will deliver a precise, prioritized list of market needs... so you can develop a product you know customers will love.

  2. Skills to drive future growth: These team members will learn skills they can apply to ALL new product projects after this one.

Best of all, this won't take much of your time. BUT... there are a few high leverage activities you can accomplish in less that an hour per month that will likely make the difference between success and failure.

1. Tips to Ensure Success

  • Make sure YOU are up to speed. Check out this 2-minute video: www.NPBforGrowth.com, and sign up for these 2 -minute videos (one/day or one/week) at www.B2BGrowth.video

  • Set a report-out date: Focus the team by setting a target date for them to present their Market Satisfaction Gap chart to you and others. Put a date on the calendar with your team leader--usually in 3-6 months.

  • Team Leader updates: Schedule monthly 30-minute updates with just your team leader. You'll be automatically provided with a monthly Project Charter update.

  • Interview support: If your team gets bogged down, it will likely be they're struggling to schedule customer interviews. You can help in two ways:

    • Ask your sales leader to make setting up customer interviews a high priority for their sales team.

    • The team leader may ask you to authorize $3-5K to schedule interviews with an expert network... either one you already subscribe to or the BluePros network.

  • Shelter the team: Your team members were already busy before this project, right? Look for ways to take other tasks off their plates. And shelter them from job changes, new initiatives, travel restrictions. "Clear the path" for them so they can succeed!

  • Recognition: Your team members are learning new skills AND moving this project forward AND keeping up with other duties. Look for ways to publicly applaud their efforts!

2. How AIM Will Help

In all of the above, you have a strong ally: The AIM Coach will join your team's meetings and coach them step-by-step

You can also expect a kickoff meeting with you, your team leader, and member(s) of the AIM team. We're highly motivated to see your team succeed and will ask you a number of questions to help:

  • Goals: What are YOUR goals for this project? A clear definition of market needs? Building strong skills for the future? Something else?

  • Timing: How fast does this project need to go? Are there specific milestone dates?
  • Process Integration: Will this project be part of your stage-and-gate process? Will it be regularly reviewed with other projects?
  • Org Support: Will the team be more successful if others in your company understand what they're doing? (Bosses of team members? Senior leadership team? Salespeople? Others?) AIM is happy to give brief webinar overviews.
  • Next Steps: Let's assume this project truly delivers. Will you want to expand the Blueprinting methodology beyond this single team?
